Google Business Profile for Roofers: Setup and the Details That Matter

How a small roofing company sets up its Google Business Profile: category, service area, services, photos, hours, posts and the mistakes that get roofing profiles suspended.

Google Business Profile for Roofers: Setup and the Details That Matter

When homeowners search "roofer near me" or "roof repair" plus their town, the first thing they usually see is the map with three local companies. Those come from Google Business Profiles. For a small roofer, a well-kept profile can bring more calls than any ad.

1. Category

Your primary category matters most. For most companies it is Roofing contractor. Add secondary categories only for work you actually do, such as gutter installation or siding. Do not add categories you do not do, hoping for extra searches.

2. Name

Use your real business name, exactly as it appears on your license and your truck. Adding keywords like "Best Roofing Tulsa Roof Repair" to your name breaks Google's rules and is a common reason roofing profiles get suspended.

3. Address and service area

Most roofers work at the customer's house. Google calls that a service area business:

  • Enter your address for verification, then hide it if customers do not come to you
  • Add your service area by cities or counties you actually cover
  • Do not use a virtual office or a mailbox as an address. Roofing is one of the categories where Google checks closely

4. Verification

Google may ask for a video verification: showing your business, your vehicle with signage, your tools and proof you manage the business. Have your truck lettered and your license handy.

5. Services

List each service separately: roof replacement, roof repair, metal roofing, tile roofing, storm damage inspection, gutters. Add a short description for each. You can add a "from" price where it fits, and keep it consistent with your website.

6. Hours

Set your real hours. If you take emergency leak calls after hours and someone actually answers, say so in your description. Do not claim 24/7 if calls go to voicemail at night. An answering service is how many small roofers answer at night honestly.

7. Photos

Photos are where roofers can stand out:

  • The finished roof from the street, on every job
  • Tear-off and new decking, which show you do the work right
  • Your crew and your truck, with your logo
  • Before and after of repairs

Post new photos every week or two. Profiles with recent photos look active.

8. Description

Write 2 to 4 short sentences: what you install, where, how long you have been in business, license and insurance. No keyword stuffing.

9. Posts

Google lets you post updates. Short, useful ones work: "Hail went through south Tulsa this week. If you see granules in your gutters, call us for a free inspection." Or a recent roof with a photo.

10. Reviews

Reviews are a big part of how Google ranks the map. Ask every customer, text the direct link and answer every review. Read Google reviews for roofers.

11. Questions and answers

Homeowners can ask questions on your profile. Answer them, and add common ones yourself: "Do you offer financing?" "Do you do insurance work?" "Are you licensed?"

12. Link to the right page

Link your profile to your website, ideally a page that shows a ballpark and lets them book an inspection. Make sure your name, phone and address match your site exactly.

13. Keep it current

Check the profile once a month. Update hours for holidays, add the new towns you started working in, remove services you stopped offering and make sure the phone number still rings someone. Google sometimes accepts edits suggested by the public, so look for changes you did not make. A profile that was right last year can be wrong today.

Mistakes that hurt roofing profiles

  • Keywords in the business name
  • Fake addresses or virtual offices
  • Several profiles for the same business
  • Fake or incentivized reviews
  • Claiming hours when no one answers

Your website and your profile

Google looks at both. A profile with a link to a website that has a page for each service and each town you work in does better than a profile linked to a single-page site. Read the roofing website checklist and see what is in roofing marketing.

How long it takes

Verification can take days to weeks. After that, a complete profile with steady reviews and photos tends to climb over months, not days. Start before storm season, not during it. Read roofing leads without door knocking for the rest of the plan.
